The Reasonings (page 125)
“Secondly, the laws and systems made by humans cannot satisfy the perennial needs and expectations of humanity, nor properly restrict its innate aggression, train its faculties appropriately, or correctly guide its potential and disposition to development or progress. This latter is inherent in the tendency of the whole of creation to achieve perfection. Human laws and systems are almost lifeless and do not last. Even though they are based on the accumulated knowledge and experiences of humanity over the course of history, they are unable to cause the seeds of potential in humanity to grow properly or to yield sound fruit. For this reason, humanity desperately needs a Divine Law, which will enable its happiness both spiritually and intellectually and physically, both in this world and the next. This law must also guide humanity along the way to the attainment of human perfection through the realization of its potentials. It is the Prophets who bring us this living, life-endowing, everlasting Divine Law.”
To accept this paragraph, I need to approve the following pre-requisites:
Step 1: I have to accept that I am created.
Step 2: Creator is timeless.
Step 3: Creator knows human nature and has constructed it in such a way that human nature needs to be satisfied not only in this world but in the Eternal world as well.
That is, this Creator must be able to bring Eternal Life and I have to be convinced that the Creator will bring it according to the evidence (which is that since I have this desire, so it must be fulfilled). After being convinced about the truthfulness of these pre-requisites, only then will this paragraph make sense.
What does “perennial” mean? It means universal, space-time wise, i.e. it should be comprehended by all human beings at all times.
Within the materialistic language, there is no meaning pertaining to existence. “Existence” is based on the order in the universe. No one can deny the order in the universe. Do seemingly chaotic events happen by chance? No. A hurricane is happening because it is within an order. The meteorologist studies the direction of the hurricane, they are doing so because it is happening within an order. Anything that looks chaotic has an order. Nothing is happening by chaos. Even when water splashes, it is within an order. Scientists say that accidental explosion turned into an order. There is no evidence for this claim in the universe.
As we observe and experience the universe as human beings, we must accept that this universe is deliberately put in order by a Conscious Will to fulfill a purpose. The witness of this Conscious Will is the universe itself.
Scientist say that everything is taking place within an order which is the result of an accident and there is no purpose in this order. Why don’t the materialistic ask if there is purpose in existence? Because purpose necessitates a Conscious Will. The order is created in a purposeful way by a Conscious Will. They condition themselves that they will never conclude this for it takes them into an Absolute Existence that they cannot control and they themselves are subject to His Will. This is a matter of arrogance.
- We are only discovering what is created by a Conscious Will.
What are my responsibilities towards other human beings including plants, animals…? I need the universal laws to guide me so that I can fulfill the requirements of my responsibilities.
- Getting the answers to my human questions is really fulfilling the purpose in my existence.
If something is a perfect action, then what does it mean for me?
Go from “How the action is occurring? to “How does everything perfectly exist in harmony with everything else?”. Human innate nature asks theses question. When you read a book, you ask: Why this person wrote this meaningful sentence? Only after reading it, we realize that this sentence requires a Conscious Will. Without “how” questions, we have no right to ask “why” questions. How is this happening? Only then you ask the why is this happening?
Human being vs. spiritual being.
I must acknowledge the authority who is introducing Itself to me. The One who gave me existence is the authority. Do I feel that my existence belongs to the One that gives me existence?
I must be convinced that I acknowledge the authority and that I am in debt of it. I must admit that this law is from it, that is why I obey the law.
- Am I acknowledging the authority?
“Consciousness of worship” is primary. “Content of law” is applied afterwards. Example: if I do not know which way is Qibla (direction to performing prayers), then as long as I am acknowledging the authority, is my worship accepted? Yes. However, after knowing the way of Qibla, if I decide to follow my own desires then I am not acknowledging the authority.
- Does the Introducer of the law deserve to be worshipped? No, the introducer of the law needs to be acknowledged as a messenger.
- Am I aware of the Introducer of the law?
Worship is not flexible but practice (content of law) is flexible within the conditions of lifestyle. Also, following only the values of secular worldview is ignoring “the worship dimension”, which is to acknowledge authority. There is no authority within this universe which deserves to be worshiped. When people follow the secular laws, they do not worship the lawmakers for they know that they are created humans like themselves.
- Worship is prime aim. Content of law must be adaptable according to worship of God.
