73:7 “Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation.”
It is a well-known saying of one of the companions of the Prophet (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) that “Incomprehensibility of God leads to comprehension of God.” That is, without going through a phase of darkness, one cannot achieve the source of light. In our apparent experience of the universe, we observe that without experiencing night, one cannot experience the day. It is a must to experience meaninglessness in order to comprehend one’s reality.
- If someone does not feel the night, s/he will not feel the day.
Think about this through all possibilities. That is, if there was no Creator of the universe, wouldn’t your life feel meaningless, empty or in a black hole? We are created in this universe with certain tools such as ears, touch, smell… These tools need to be used to collect data from what we experience in this physical world and then process it to come to a conclusion. The processing of the data is done through experiencing the universe and logically concluding something i.e. satisfaction of one’s mind. When the mind is satisfied, it leads to an overall inner satisfaction of one’s overall being.
- Human qualities must feel at peace after concluding one’s experience of the universe.
The universe, by definition is a limited space to experience one’s reality. But since there is continuous order being displayed, it becomes an infinite space for discovering one’s reality. Every day there are new discoveries taking place. Time dimension has an order as well. Hence, the order in the universe is not a static order. We need to use the order to converse with the One that creates the universe and its order, the Creator. Thanks to the order, we are learning how the universe is continuously put in existence, as we call it, in the course of time.
The “prolonged opportunity” in the verse refers to cultivating your human qualities to get to know its Source of existence when you get out of darkness and find meaning. Every moment, one has the opportunity to utilize his/her human qualities to the fullest. This process of perfecting your overall being does not end.
