The Necessity of Resurrection
Belief in God requires believing in Messengership (page 51)
“Know, O friend, that belief in God, the Prophet, Resurrection, and affirming the universe’ existence require mutual belief. There is a perfect relation between these pillars of belief, for believing in one requires believing in others. The universe explains the absolute necessity of God’s Existence and God’s Existence requires Messengership and the other world.”
- Does God’s existence require Messengership?
- Yes. Otherwise, how would we know what to make out of our existence here?
- What is Messengership?
- Objects/events/creatures/people, through their existence, are bringing news from their Maker to help us understand the meaning of our existence.
How can I make sense of existence of Messengership?
- By questioning everything in creation. Example: Is the object the source of the light it reflects? Or is light reflected on the object coming from somewhere else?
- If light, which is reflected on all objects, is coming from somewhere else, then what is the source of existence of light?
“It is impossible for such a book, especially one in which each word is as meaningful as a separate book and each letter of which is like a eulogy, to have no writer. The existence of this book of the universe cannot be explained if there is no Eternal Designer. Just as a building containing marvels of art, exquisite designs, and wonderful decorations cannot exist without an architect and a builder, this world cannot exist without its Maker.”
- If this universe is a perfect piece of art, then it must have an Architect.
“Images of the sun reflected in transparent things, as well as in bubbles on rivers and seas, and in drops of water and snowflakes, can be explained only by attributing them to the sun. Otherwise, we would have to accept the existence of as many suns as there are drops of water, bubbles, and snowflakes. The existence of this ever-changing and ever-renewed universe can be explained only by the necessary existence of its Creator and Builder. He planted this awesome tree according to the prescripts of His Destiny and Decree, ordered it according to the demands of His manner of acting, decorated it in accordance with gifts of His Favor and mercy, and illuminated it by manifesting His Names and Attributes.”
Analogy: Light is a quality coming from the sun. For the sake of the analogy, let’s assume that you do not see the sun, then you conclude that light reflecting on the mirror must come from another source, because the mirror has no quality to produce the light it reflects. Similarly, the universe reflects endless qualities. Since we cannot attribute qualities to objects in the universe, because they have no qualities (such as knowledge, power, freewill, wisdom etc.) to produce the results we see on them, we conclude that the qualities must come from a source.
Some questions to ask ourselves:
- What is worship? If we do not know what we are worshipping, then what is it that we are doing?
- If the universe has a Maker, how can we communicate with this Maker of the universe?
“Each living part of creation is like a miniature of the whole, and therefore the Creator of that part can create the whole. Denying the existence of One Creator means that there are as many divinities as there are atoms and compounds in the universe.”
When we conclude that the qualities of an object must be Absolute, it is a personal logical conviction. To come to such conclusion, we need to go through a series of questioning: Do particles have qualities originating from themselves which produce the communication with each other? No. So how come the tiniest creature perfectly roams around the universe? After the series of questioning and answering, we can then conclude that: In order to be able to give existence to the qualities we observe in the universe, the One that arranges that must be able to give existence to the qualities within the context of the whole universe.
- God manifests Himself through Messengers
“Just as the sun diffuses light, God manifests Himself through Messengers. Infinitely perfect Beauty cannot fail to make Itself known through a teaching Messenger; infinitely beautiful Art cannot fail to draw attention to Itself through a herald who describes It; and the sovereignty of an all-encompassing Lordship must proclaim, through one raised with the principles of happiness in both worlds, Its Oneness and Its being the Eternally Besought of All.”
The Creator of the universe reveals Itself through giving existence to the qualities of the objects here. When we see light manifested in the objects, we conclude that there must be a sun diffusing the light. Similarly, by seeing endless qualities manifested in the things here in the universe, we conclude that there must be a Source giving existence to these qualities.
Messengers mean teachers i.e. a teacher conveying a continuous message. In other words, they help people establish relations between themselves and their Creator. That is to say, the Creator employs someone to help us understand the meaning we extract from our existence. Otherwise, we are lost in a materialistic understanding of the universe without the answers to our human questions. Example: what should we do with realizing infinite Beauty? Our ability to reason and question must have a purpose. You should have the Creator answer all your human questions.
The universe only points to existence of its Creator, not the purpose of existence. Since we are in need to find out the purpose of our existence, we seek out help from the teachers employed to convey a message.
